In our first session together, which was face-to-face, I helped Monica to establish what was going well in her life and where the areas of dissatisfaction and concern were. Having got clear on this, I encouraged Monica to set three inspiring and challenging goals in the areas that were going to have the biggest positive impact to her happiness, health and success – and really move her forward.
The following session, Monica demonstrated reaching breaking point with her stress levels after a day of feeling out of control in the office. This actually helped to fuel her motivation to introduce better coping strategies and to change her behaviour for good. Over the coming weeks, I supported her to delegate work to her team more, improve communication with her boss and importantly leave work on time and fit exercise in. She found that swimming after work helped her to de-stress and improve her respiratory health.
With renewed energy and confidence, Monica summoned the strength to finally start divorce proceedings and no longer working all hours, she spent time connecting with her teenage children once more, rebuilding the relationships. As she remarked, she had to reposition herself as a working mother and manage expectations, to focus on what was really important, which was not her current job.
Like most clients, keeping focused on the Vision that she had created for herself (which included being in a new home) was vital to her success and achievement of her goals. I supported Monica to maintain the big picture whilst developing self-awareness to change some negative thinking and remove any obstacles in her way. She rediscovered her love of cooking and also catching up with friends, ensuring that alcohol was not the focus of the evening.
By being committed to her goals, taking regular action and reviewing her progress each week with my accountability and ‘cheer-leading’, Monica’s health and life balance dramatically improved. On top of this, she left her job and gained a fantastic promotion increasing her salary into an even more high-profile leadership role in a new organisation.
Challenged and content in her new job, she loved relaxing in her new garden and enjoyed her new fitness levels. Since then, I am delighted to say that she has a new man in her life and when we recently met up was sparkling with happiness!
