Imagine You are struggling with inner resistance related to an activity  you consider key to feel successful in Your career. Let's say your recent performance review indicates You should take on a more challenging role. You perceive Your manager's expectations of You to become much more visible in Your leadership role.

It seems clear to You that You ought to refine some of Your teaming, communication as well as presentation skills to become more influential in Your team. Still, You're finding Yourself doubting whether You should stay or perhaps move on to something else. Your sleep is affected by Your thoughts and You know You should address this now as Your friends make comments about how often You negatively refer to Your current job situation.

What if You decided to partner up with a Coach and were able to define Your detailed objectives in becoming more influential and successful in Your career? Your Coach then recommends You to create an avatar in a virtual world reflecting the Leader/Colleague/Team Member You want to become, YouVersion2. You agree to meet Your Coach in a virtual world coaching venue designed to support Your specific creativity and skills development activities.

In this coaching venue, You brainstorm ideas, You create Your own measurement for success on a board and You practice the skills You need to build confidence. Your Coach offers topic specific materials, instant feedback by voice, chat or avatar gestures, and offers role plays, avatar to avatar.

To support Your development further, Your Coach suggest that You spend part of the coaching session getting inspiration from a subject matter expert, so You teleport to the expert who might be in a very different part of the virtual world and start engaging. You notice there will be some get-togethers among other fans of the expert and You sign up for a later event. At the end of the coaching session, You commit to the actions agreed with Your coach and bring Your insights and lessons learned from the virtual world into play in Your real life. As a result of Your efforts, You may choose to stay, to move on or ...You may decide to pursue the area of passion discovered when combining the benefits of the two worlds...

In April, 2010 I launched a simple survey on LinkedIn and asked for my network's response to the following question: "Will coaching offered in virtual worlds be seen as a high quality substitute to traditional face to face or phone coaching?" I found the responses very interesting and I became convinced that there is significant potential for embracing coaching in virtual worlds into my own portfolio of coaching services in the future.

I've got one brave pilot onboard already and I'm now looking for more pilots to explore this new medium of coaching. Feel free to contact me directly via email to join me for an exploratory coaching journey in SecondLife! Meanwhile Your opinion on my Q4-2010 poll is highly appreciated! Please feel free to share this opportunity with others in Your network.
